According to BMW, the 5 Series GT is a combination of essential features of a luxury sedan, a modern SAV and a classic Gran Turismo, which makes it sound very much like something we've previously seen before - Mercedes' Grand Sports Tourer, also more commonly known as the R-Class. ![]() If you think that the X6's part SUV, part sports coupe character was confusing then the 5 Series GT is just unfathomable - its frameless side windows suggest a coupe, the slightly raised seating position hints at a crossover SUV, the hatchback tailgate indicate an estate or a family car while the proportions and sumptuous interior suggest a luxury saloon. Porsche is making SUVs and luxury saloons while BMW has SAVs (Sports Activity Vehicle) and what they call a Gran Turismo in the form of the 5 Series GT. ![]() ![]() BMW would make saloon cars with just a coupe or two thrown into the mix while Porsche makes just 911s.
